Is Flexdrive Car Subscription Service Worth it?
Nov 10, 2022 By Triston Martin

A car subscription is like owning a car without actually owning one. It provides you with the convenience and amenities of driving a car around without the full hassle of car ownership. We know of magazine subscriptions or the popular movie subscription and streaming service Netflix. Amazingly enough, you can now subscribe to cars.

Flexdrive provides car subscription services through its app. You pay a monthly fee for maintenance costs and other expenses. Flexdrive allows you to choose your preferred car from a fleet.

Flexdrive partners with established car dealership companies to provide clients with ample vehicles. It offers the benefits of owning or leasing a car without the most downsides. With Flexdrive, you don’t buy, lease or rent a car; you subscribe to it.

Convenience

That’s Flexdrive’s best perk if you ask the majority of its customers. Convenience in terms of payment compressed into a single monthly fee, or the fact that you get any car you want from a selection of the best cars in the market.

One can subscribe to a car for a week to 28 days at a time. Flexdrive is best for individuals who:

  • Want a car without using traditional car rental services.
  • Want to switch up vehicles every once in a while.
  • Don’t have much money for car renting and leasing.
  • Will want a car for longer periods than car rentals would allow.
  • Are financially stable, wanting to save time and reduce the hassle of buying vehicles.

Cost

The most affordable subscription fee at Flexdrive is $400 per month. This figure includes the total taxes, insurance, maintenance and roadside assistance. To subscribe to premium vehicles, a subscription could go up to over $1000 monthly. These subscription costs are bundled into a single fee.

Unlike most car rental services, Flexdrive does not charge an initial membership fee. They, however, require a $250 security deposit, which is refundable and is affected by the following:

  • The geographical location of the car.
  • The car’s model and type.
  • The length of the subscription.

With Flexdrive, you can cancel a subscription anytime without incurring extra charges. Their no-proration system ensures that you do not pay for periods that you do not subscribe to their services. You only pay for the time your subscription is active.

You can also pause your subscription. This is helpful because you don’t have to have additional liability when you are having a bad month. Flexdrive’s clients could pause their subscription without actually cancelling it if they project a bad month.

You will pay the full term if you return the car before the subscription term ends. The lowest subscription with Flexdrive is seven days; that’s a week.

Flexibility of choice

Since it deals with car dealerships with all kinds of cars under their belts, Flexdrive’s clients are therefore availed of diverse car options and can make flexible decisions. A recent study on Flexdrive offers revealed that subscribing to a 2016 Toyota Camry will cost you $204 for seven days.

Flexdrive has seven subscription levels. Each tier has its price and car models to select from. They include:

  • $400 and above – Nissan Leaf, Toyota Yaris, Mini Cooper.
  • $500 and above – Dodge Avenger, Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta SE.
  • $600 and above – Fiat 500x, Kia Soul, Chevrolet Cruze.
  • $700 and above – Volkswagen Golf TSI, Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan Rogue.
  • $800 and above – Toyota RAV4, Honda Accord, Nissan Frontier.
  • $900 and above – Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, Honda CR-V.
  • $1000 and above – Audi A3 Premium, Jaguar XF Sport, Dodge Challenger SXT.

Flexdrive’s vehicles are well-maintained and relatively new, if not completely new. You can see your options using the app or website or call them through their toll-free number, 866-850-7116.

Credit checks

Flexdrive does not require strict credit checks for its clients before the subscription begins. In fact, it does not perform any credit checks at all. To minimize risk, the first subscription fee must be paid in advance. Also, the refundable security deposit acts as sufficient risk avoidance.

Convenience, cost, and credit checks are the three ‘big C’s’ that clients love about Flexdrive.

Eligibility

Like every other car subscription service, Flexdrive has some checks in place to cushion against risk. Some of the eligibility requirements include the following:

  • You must be 25 years and above in the majority of the states.
  • You must have a mobile phone with access to the app. Flexdrive will send relevant alerts to your phone.
  • You must have an active credit or debit card.
  • You must have a valid driver’s license and a three-year clean driving record.
  • You must need the car in a location where Flexdrive is available.

Once you send in all your details via the app, you will wait seven days for your application to be approved. You will also have to pay the subscription fee and deposit before you receive a vehicle at your preferred pickup time.

Process

The entire process of subscribing to a vehicle and returning it after use is likened to this:

  • Download the Flexdrive app, which is available both on iPhone and Android.
  • Send in all the necessary details, such as a photo of your driver’s license and credit card information and accept the membership agreement.
  • Wait a week for approval.
  • You may reserve a vehicle of your choice while approval is pending.
  • Pay the subscription fee and deposit.
  • Schedule a pickup time. Receive your car and enjoy its services.
  • To return it, do so during business hours.
  • The car will be inspected for any issues.

You can renew your car subscription two days before the current one ends.

Drawbacks

Flexdrive has amazing benefits for its clients; it is hard to find flaws. However, a few rough spots stand out. For instance, and this is completely understandable, no one else is allowed to use your vehicle apart from yourself. Insurance covers you and you alone.

Flexdrive does not reward early returns with discounts. Its prorated system ensures that all clients, whether they pay in full or on time, will pay the same amount.

Another major drawback concerning Flexdrive is that it is not yet nationally available. It is only available in Atlanta, Austin, South Florida, Fort Worth, Philadelphia, Cherry Hill and Turnersville, New Jersey. Flexdrive promises more locations soon.
